Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Division of Unemployment Insurance (DUI) Benefit Accuracy Measurement Unit (formerly Quality Control) is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Staff Specialist II.

LOCATION OF POSITION

1100 North Eutaw Street, Baltimore, Maryland

POSITION DUTIES

Work generally involves the analysis and interpretation of data and situations; the analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvements; participation in operational or procedural planning processes; or the facilitation of program support activities. Actual duties may vary from assignment to assignment, depending upon the work center to which the employee is assigned. In some work centers, positions may supervise subordinate professional, technical, or clerical personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from and accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Four years of administrative experience in unemployment insurance work involving discretion and independent judgement directly related to unemployment insurance programs.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute graduate education for the required experience at the rate of one year of education to one year of experience.

2. Applicants may substitute additional experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education, for up to four years of the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Human Resources Management classifications or Human Resources Management specialty codes in the unemployment insurance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The best candidates for this position will have 3 years current experience in reviewing non-monetary determinations, experience in both Benefits and Tax operations, and experience in maintaining a work schedule with set deadlines for completion.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
