Main Purpose of Job

This position will function at the full performance level, assembling, installing, repairing and maintaining high and low pressure steam and hot water systems to assure the continuity of mechanical systems services at the Springfield Hospital Center.  This requires the ability to work semi-independently diagnosing problems, performing preventive maintenance and various maintenance tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the sixth grade.

Experience: Four years of experience assembling, installing, repairing and maintaining high and low pressure steam and hot water systems.

Notes: 1. Additional experience in steam fitting work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational/technical high school or other vocational/technical school with a concentration in steam fitting may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in NAMTS Pipefitter or Utilitiesman classifications or Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration; Machinery Technician; or Utilities Equipment Repairer specialty codes in the maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification who are designated as Level I or Level II employees shall attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
