Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Registered Dietitian II is a staff dietitian at the full performance level providing clinical nutritional care services to patients and clients for a health care facility of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The main purpose of this position is to provide oversight for the kitchen operation providing nutritional care to the patient population.  As a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team, the clinical dietitian contributes to the identification of patient problems and development of treatment plans assessing the patients ability to follow a diet, plan and prepare their own meals and educating patients regarding the relationship between diet and disease. The incumbent will document the patients' progress in medical records and will contribute to the identification and resolution of problems, participating in daily planning and operations and direct employees when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience:  One year of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.

NOTE:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classifications or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice.

2.  Candidates must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) prior to completion of probationary period and must maintain a current registration during their time of employment. Applicants who are currently registered should submit proof of CDR registration with application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
