Main Purpose of Job

This position work at the non-certified master's degree level, counseling inmates with substance use disorders by using intervention, treatment and rehabilitation.   This position assess all incoming inmates in a designated institution for substance abuse problems and provides counseling, intervention, treatment and rehabilitation services to those inmates with substance abuse disorders.  This may also include inmates that are dually diagnosed.

POSITION DUTIES

Some of the duties for this position include:

 

Provide substance abuse treatment on an individual basis twice monthly and two group sessions a week for two groups with approximately 15 members and facilitating one aftercare services group weekly.

 

Document all group and individual notes to include treatment plans and discharge summaries in inmate files.

 

Maintain contact with internal and external resources such as community based addiction providers in support of providing aftercare services.

 

Perform screening as needed on inmates entering the institution utilizing the TCU Drug Screen II. 

 

Assess inmates as needed using the TAP to identify inmates needing substance abuse treatment services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A master’s or doctoral degree in a health or human services counseling field from an accredited college or university approved by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or completion of a program of studies judged by the Board to be substantially equivalent in subject matter and training.

Experience: None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must apply for and receive a letter of authorization to practice as a trainee from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists within 90 days of their date of hire.

2. Employees must successfully obtain certification or licensure from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as either a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug or a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor within one year of meeting the experience requirements for Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in 
accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

All persons who meet the minimum qualification will be approved on the certification list and will be placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.  Please make sure that you provide sufficient information on your application to show that you meet the qualifications for this recruitment. BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
