Work that Matters. DHCD’s Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) strives to provide comprehensive public relations and marketing communications services to support and promote all of DHCD’s many programs and services.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Crownsville, Maryland. In the future, DHCD will be relocating from Crownsville, Anne Arundel County, to the New Carrollton transit stop location in Prince George’s County.

POSITION DUTIES

This position provides public relations support to the Office of Communications and Marketing, which supports the mission of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. They will assist in the development of media relations materials and disseminate communications materials to the media, stakeholders and constituents. Strong writing and journalistic ability is a must; experience in photography, videography, and social media communications is a strong plus. In addition, this position will provide media and logistics support, when necessary, to staff meetings and marketing/outreach events. It will also track and analyze media coverage for trends and opportunities; support marketing and communications staff on special projects as needed; and, update the DHCD website on a regular basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related areas of study.

Experience: None

Note:

1. Additional experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience as a writer, either in public relations or journalism is preferred.
