LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Office is at Maryland State Police Medical Division, 1201 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208.  This position also manages the State of Maryland drug testing program and that will requires the employee to travel statewide to every Maryland State Police Barrack.

Main Purpose of Job

The position serves as the Department's Medical Records Coordinator, Worker's Compensation Coordinator and the Agency Technical Rerpresentative (Drug Screening Program).

POSITION DUTIES

Review and prepare files of all department medical forms at the Medical Services Unit.  Receive and file employer's first report of injury forms that may result in completing requests for work time loss for the Injured Workers Insurance Fund (IWIF). Manage the State of Maryland drug testing program for new Maryland State Police employees hired in a sensitive classification or nposition with strict confidence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of general clerical or administrative support experience at least one year of which must have been paraprofessional personnel experience involving the application of public sector procedures, policies, rules and regulations to specific employment actions. Appropriate paraprofessional personnel experience should have included responsibility for activities such as, preparing and maintaining employment records, calculating salaries, applying and interpreting rules and policies, preparing personnel-related reports, counseling employees regarding benefits and obligations, and responding to inquiries concerning employment actions.

Note:

1. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in human resources assistance classification or human resources assistance specialty codes in the human resources management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of the required experience must have been in medical records. including reviewing, and preparing reports and files on medical forms used to document employee's medical illness, employee's family member's illness and medical appointments for an employee or an employee's family member.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year experience working in the area of worker's compensation by receiving and filing employee's on-duty injury/illness reports and working with insurance companies to manage claims.

Experience coordinating drug testing for prospective and current employees, including scheduling testing and preparing testing documents.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.  

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing
