This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service- Scotland, MD location.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Point Lookout State Park- Scotland, MD (St. Mary's County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist II at Point Lookout State Park in Scotland, Maryland (St. Mary's County).  The selected candidate will be responsible for performing financial and clerical tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the Point Lookout State Park office.  The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring expenditures; preparing invoices and deposits; monitoring corporate card purchases and encumbrances and reconciling financial records.  The selected candidate completes and submits seasonal contracts for contractual employees, tracks employee leave, and processes seasonal timesheets.  Clerical tasks include providing front-line visitor services via telephone, correspondence and in-person; maintaining state park files and databases, and maintaining park records.  The incumbent assists with concession sales, and operates a cash register and reconciles park revenues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in administrative or professional work.

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience in budget monitoring and preparation and fiscal activities is preferred.

Professional Experience and/or formal education in software, such as Quicken/Quick Books, Excel and Publisher is preferred.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to candidates willing to accept employment in St. Mary's County only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
