Introduction

Maryland State Department of Education is recruiting for an Administrative Specialist II; located in the Division of Library Development and Services. The resulting elgible list will be maintained for (1) year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

Provide quality equipment and circulation service to customers of the Maryland State Library of the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Provide leadership and assistance, state-wide, to ensure quality service in both circulation and equipment fulfillment to patrons of the Maryland Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH). This position is responsible for the dissemination of management of the library's collection of digital cartridges, and cassettes and the unique equipment required to listen to these materials. Participates in visits to schools and retirement communities to assist and train in the operation of specialized equipment. Provide customer service regarding book selection and service as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of National Library Services database 

Accurately maintain spreadsheets for inventory of equipment

Adequately perform semi-annual equipment audits

Experience preparing materials and conducting training on equipment use

Accurately prepare statistical reports

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
