Main Purpose of Job

The Cook II at the Cheltenham Youth Facility will prepare and cook food according to DJS menus, standardized recipes and productions sheets while adhering to food safety/sanitation requirements established by HACCCP-based standard operating procedures. The position will ensure maintenance of kitchen and work area in a clean and orderly manner. This relates to the mission by providing safe, nutritious meals for youth housed at a residential program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Three years of experience in food preparation at a public or governmental establishment, such as a restaurant, hospital or comparable institution involving the cooking of meats and vegetables and the preparation of salads and beverages.

Notes: 1. Graduation from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a major in food service or a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Culinary classifications or Food Services specialty codes in the Equipment Services and Facilities field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

On the Supplemental Questionnaire accessed by the link at the bottom of this announcement, describe how you meet the preferred qualifications of the following:

Experience in the performance of preparation of food in an institutional setting (i.e. nursing home, hospital).

Possession of an Associate of Arts degree OR Bachelor's degree in culinary arts, food and restaurant manager or related field.

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related experience and education. For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
