Main Purpose of Job

The Administrative Specialist III is also called the DD Unit Triage Coordinator. The Triage Coordinator works in conjunction with other Triage staff in the unit to ensure that complaints received from recipients of DDA funded services, their family members, advocates and affiliates, and incidents self-reported from Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) licensed providers are properly reviewed, processed, filled and/or assigned to unit investigators and surveyors. The incumbent must apply requirements in the Developmental Disabilities Administration Policy on Reportable Incidents and Investigations (PORII) to perform the essential job functions of this position. Duties include reviewing, documenting, and clarifying information reported, soliciting and obtaining additional information to help identify categories for complaints and incidents, and to distinguish between those requiring no further action, administrative reviews, or on-site investigations. The incumbent must be able to review and process information accurately, and have good organizational and interpersonal skills. The incumbent communicates with the general public, local governments and other State and Federal agencies to obtain and report information, and to exchange information pertaining to the rights of individuals receiving DDA funded services. In addition to familiarity with PORII, the incumbent must also possess and maintain knowledge of State, Federal, and local regulations governing supports and services provided to individuals with developmental disabilities, and familiarity with the operations of State and Federal Agencies, Law Enforcement, and Protection and Advocacy Organizations who interact with the DD Unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

NOTES:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-to-year basis for the required education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
