Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for multiple seasonal contractual Natural Resources Technician I positions located in the Frederick City Watershed near Frederick, Maryland and the Cumberland City Watershed near Cumberland, Maryland. The position for the Frederick Watershed will be based out of the forestry office at Washington Monument State Park (Middletown, Maryland). This position will assist in carrying out forest management activities on the Frederick City Watershed to include forest inventory, preparation of forest harvest data, trail maintenance, invasive plant control, boundary maintenance and other pertinent duties as necessary. Positions for the Cumberland City Watershed will be based out of the Western Region Office near Rocky Gap State Park (Flintstone, Maryland). These positions will primarily collect forest inventory data for the development of a forest management plan for the Cumberland City Watershed. Work for all positions may include use of basic hand tools, motor vehicles, ATV's/UTV's, chainsaws, herbicides and herbicide application equipment, forestry tools, GPS equipment, and handheld data recorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience:  None.  

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture, wildlife, aquaculture, natural resources management, or fisheries may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with geographic information systems is preferred but not required.
