Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Conservation Corps (CJC) is a six-week summer employment program for disadvantaged youth operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. CJC uses outdoor experiential activities and the power of nature to enrich the lives of youth and prepare them for future success in the workforce. The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions for CJC Site Coach for the CJC Program. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the specific location(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment.
The CJC Camp Specialist is responsible for ensuring the regular, reliable and professional implementation of a three-day/two-night camping component for CJC Corps Members while ensuring the training and safety of crews. The Camp Specialist mentors members by seizing opportunities to enhance teamwork and outdoor ethics. The Camp Specialist will be residing at their assigned camp location Monday - Friday during the six-week program.
The CJC Camp Specialist shall:
Develop skill of Corps Members by seeing that all Corps Members learn safe and professional work practices, including but not limited to the following:
- Proper set-up of a tent and use of camping equipment;
- Professional courtesy to community members, park staff and others they come in contact within the field:
- Adherence to DNR and CJC policies, rules and regulations; and
- Clear articulation of activities, goals and related services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Previous work experience with children and youth.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education or experience in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business, administration, forestry, social sciences, or a natural resources related field is preferred.
Previous work experience with at-risk youth is preferred.
Possession of current certification in CPR for adult/child and First-Aid is preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
