Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, Southern Region, Box 1509, Carter Building, Leonardtown, MD 20650 is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Internship Conservation Aide I position located in Charles County, Maryland. The selected candidate will perform work outdoors to implement forest management plan data collection, GIS mapping, fisheries and wildlife management field work and trail maintenance. Work duties will entail but are not limited to tree identification, mapping, forest measurements, wildlife and fisheries observation and data collection and scientific analyses of data.

NOTE: This is an unpaid internship position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of an Associate Degree or sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university including at least eighteen (18)  semester hours in physical or biological science, engineering, or natural resources related course work. 

 OR

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time sub professional technical experience in the natural resources fields or engineering.

OR

Experience: One (1) year as a Conservation Aide IV in the Maryland State Service.

Notes:

1. Completion of a State of Maryland sponsored Water Sewer Operators training course may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

2. Applicants may substitute thirty semester hours of which nine hours must be in physical or biological science, engineering or natural resources related course work for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources Management classifications or Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources Management specialty codes in the Engineering or Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.    

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Possess a valid Maryland Driver's license.
