Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service, is currently accepting applications for a Student Technical Assistant at the Mt. Nebo Work Center in Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland. This position is an entry level job and will provide assistance as required to the Western Region Inland Fisheries Manager performing regional and fisheries management work. Job duties will include but not limited to performing electro-fishing surveys, collecting water quality data, field surveys of habitat conditions, maintenance of Fisheries Management Areas, and statewide assistance on population surveys. The selected candidate will perform other necessary duties as required.

Note: Exposure to inclement weather and heavy lifting are frequent. The ability to work in adverse conditions, hike long distances carrying sampling equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work independently as directed is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Currently enrolled as a college student in biological sciences field.

Experience: None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must have a valid Driver's License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The ability to work in adverse conditions, hike long distances carrying sampling equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work independently as directed is required.
