Introduction

APPLICATIONS CURRENTLY BEING ACCEPTED FOR SEASONAL HOURLY EMPLOYMENT IN THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM.

HIRING BEGINS IN MARCH AND CONTINUES INTO THE SUMMER MONTHS.

THIS IS CONTRACTUAL EMPLOYMENT AND EMPLOYEES WILL BE PAID FOR ACTUAL HOURS WORKED ONLY.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Employees will be assigned to one of four regional offices in Maryland.  Interested applicants may call the regional office for more information about summer hiring:

Main Purpose of Job

Seasonal Employees needed to assist with surveillance and control of mosquito populations in Maryland. Work involves: handing, mixing, and applying pesticides; mosquito collection; field inspection; mosquito surveillance.

POSITION DUTIES

Hourly pay rates are as follows:

Mosquito Control Assistants:  $ 10.00 Base to $12.00 per hour

Mosquito Control Technicians:  $ 11.00 Base to $ 13.50 per hour, with night shift differential

Mosquito Control Supervisors:  $ 12.00 Base to $ 14.50 per hour, with night shift differential

(Increments awarded above Base pay for experience/education)

JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Handling, mixing and applying pesticides
  • Mosquito collection
  • Field inspection
  • Mosquito surveillance
  • Supervision

Involves contact with the public, exposure to biting/stinging insects, ticks, poison ivy, pesticides, extensive walking in suburban, wooded and wetland areas, and driving spray truck.  Employees may be required to wear protective equipment.  Some shifts involve working evenings and early morning hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Age:  16 for Assistants and 18 for Technicians and Supervisors

High School Diploma/GED required for Technicians and Supervisors

Supervisors must have a minimum of three months experience performing mosquito control work or other pesticide/pest control work.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License required for Technicians and Supervisors, with no more than 5 points on driving record.
