Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Central Region, is currently accepting applications for seasonal-contractual Conservation Aide IV position located at Elk Neck State Forest in North East, Maryland. Work entails performing independently moderate complex tasks in the maintenance of 14 miles of hiking trails including routine construction work, rendering routine preventive maintenance, and making minor repairs or improvements to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways. Other duties may include but are not limited to: working with contract vendors on maintenance projects, operating chainsaws, habitat improvement projects, forest fire suppression and working on volunteer trail projects.

Note: This position may require some work on weekends and/or holidays. Exposure to inclement weather and heavy lifting are frequent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, plows, large trucks, etc is preferred.

Knowledge of trail management practices and design standards is preffered.

The possession of a CDL driver's license is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have the ability to obtain a CDL driver's license.
