Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for a seasonal Office Clerk position located at Savage River State Forest in Grantsville, Maryland. The incumbent will greet the public, process timber sale paperwork, assist with Off Road Vehicle Permits on the state forest, process shooting range passes, advise campers/hikers about opportunities on the state forest, be responsible for forestry seasonal employee contracts, open incoming mail, answer telephone calls, maintain routine statistical and numerical records requiring basic arithmetic computations, use a computer, and perform other office related duties.

Note: The selected candidate may be required to work weekends and/or holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six (6) months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.  

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
