The main purpose of the Environmental Sanitarian Trainee position is to assist in the promotion of all aspects of Environmental Health while enforcing all applicable State and Local Environmental Health laws and regulations. This position will conduct inspections of licensed food service facilities as specified in COMAR 10.15.03 to ensure that food is prepared, cooked, stored, and served in a manner that will not jeopardize public health. This position performs plan reviews of proposed food service facilities, reviews and approves applications for special food events, investigates complaints regarding licensed food service facilities and conducts investigations into possible food borne illnesses.

Education:    Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience:  None.

1.  Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a certificate of eligibility to be licensed as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

2.  Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
