Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise Environmental Health Specialists in programs related to Rabies Control, Public Swimming Pool Program, Campground Program, Mobile Home Park Program and Community Health Complaints. This position includes assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating assigned programs. This position also develops and monitors workload plans to ensure assigned staff meet required inspection mandates (quantitative) per Code of Maryland regulations (COMAR).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience: Two years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.

Notes: 

1. A Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists. A copy of your current license or license verification must accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
