Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the job is to screen every gun case for federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure that the investigation is complete, the defendant is properly charged, the prosecutor is prepared to aggressively prosecute the matter and the defendant is held accountable for his/her actions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) years of genral law enforcement experience.

Three (3) years as a law enforcement supervisor with direct supervision of law enforcement officers.

Two (2) years experience in criminal investigation relating to firearms to include firearms identification, expertise in state and federal gun laws, criminal procedure/law, rules of evidence and crime scene processing.

Two (2) experience using crime databases to include Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), METERS/NCIC, LinX, Judicial Information System.

Must be available 24/7/365 to include weekends, holidays, nights and rotating shifts.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants may be subject to an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number at which they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED OR QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

 The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing
