Main Purpose of Job

MDA supports 60 Ultra Low Volume Aerosol Generators in its Mosquito Control Program. ULV machines are mounted on trucks for operation in areas where it is desirable to control adult mosquitoes, dispensing minute aerosols which are carried by wind currents and impinge on flying mosquitos. ULV machines combine computers and GPS technology, gasoline engines, air turbines and electric pumps. Assembly and installation involves mechanical, electrical and electronic work and requires thorough knowledge of the electronic components.

POSITION DUTIES

Work closely with senior employees and acquire a working knowledge of all the component parts of the spray system with all aspects of work related to the ULV spray system used in Maryland's Mosquito Control Program.

Learn diagnostic procedures to identify problems with Smart Flow units; how to disassemble, remove and replace parts and reassemble, test circuit boards, switches and other electronic parts.

Learn the function and operation of electric positive displacement piston pumps used with ULV sprayers, and the methods of changing flow rate mechanically and electrically.

Assists with mechanical work, installing computer support and docking stations, and fabricating parts.

Use a variety of hand and power tools, work under vehicles to route power cables and computer connecting cables; cut holes into truck floor and body for routing cables; will use cutting torches and welders to alter or fabricate parts for spray systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate.

2. Successful completion of an approved course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work, or formal schooling in electronics, on a year-for-year basis, for up to two years of required high school education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes in the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

2. Persons appointed to this position may, in some departments, be subject to call twenty-four hours a day in emergencies.
