Introduction

 THIS IS A POSITION-SPECIFIC RECRUITMENT FOR DORCHESTER COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES.

Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as the executive assistant to the Director of the agency in order to relieve the official of operational details by using best practices, advanced office procedures, and agency and state policies and procedures. Duties include composing and preparing highly sensitive and confidential materials that includes correspondence, reports, etc. This position also serves as the agency's central point of contact for internal and external customers who wish to file complaints or express concerns seeking solutions to problems that cannot be solved in the existing program units. Duties for this position also functions as the executive assistant to the agency's advisory board that types minutes, reports and gathers and condenses information for the board's review.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience performing secretarial support to an official, administrator or administrative staff handling confidential correspondence, reports and other material of a confidential nature in an office setting.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:Candidate should possess the following:

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and research ability

2. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and ability to accomplish team objectives.

3. Proven problem solving and analytical skills.

4. Strong computer knowledge with software experience in Microsoft Office that includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

LIMITED CANDIDATES WILLING TO WORK IN DORCHESTER COUNTY.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
