Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) currently has a vacancy for Administrative Officer I in its General Services Office located at 9702 Old Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21234 in Baltimore County, MD. This position has statewide responsibility for all property control functions. The position will coordinate and manage the inventory of equipment, capital, sensitive and non-sensitive at DJS Headquarters Unit, all DJS field offices and DJS facilities throughout the State of Maryland including various group homes and private providers. The position is a required to travel throughout the state two to three times a week. The work involves special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders and moving and lifting furniture. The ideal candidate will have experience with inventory management for equipment and/or supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: One (I) year experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 1.  Experience with inventory management for equipment and/or supplies.

This recruitment is limited to current Maryland Department of Juvenile Services Employees

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  We will not consider information submitted after this date.  Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as it relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate educational and employment information on your application.  Please make sure to provide sufficient information on your application to show the qualifications for this recruitment.  For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. This list will be used by DJS hiring agency to select employees.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
