LOCATION OF POSITION

There are currently 2 vacancies. These positions will travel to Dorchester, Talbot and Wicomico Counties (mileage reimbursed).

Main Purpose of Job

Select and evaluate samples of poultry to certify compliance with established standards for grade, size, labeling, sanitation and buyer specifications. Accurate and impartial certification provides a standard description that promotes the uniform marketing of poultry and ensures buyer satisfaction.

POSITION DUTIES

Select, evaluate and document results for samples of poultry.

Complete required 160 hours of training in poultry and other available training.

Evaluate plant sanitation and safety hazards, document findings and take appropriate action.

Communicate with plan management, industry personnel, federal supervisors, consumers, etc. concerning regulations, procedures and non-compliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six months in the Maryland State classification of Agricultural Commodity Grader Trainee. OR

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.

Note:

1.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience non-commissioned officer in quality assurance, inspection and grading classification or quality assurance, inspection and grading specialty codes in the agricultural commodity grading field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. A valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license may be required before appointment to some positions in this class. Applicants must list the license number and date of issuance on the application

2. After a period of initial training, employees in this classification must obtain the appropriate commodity grader license issued by the United States Department of Agriculture within three months of their appointment.
