Main Purpose of Job
The Contractual Nutrition Program Trainee is the non-licensed entry level of work providing nutrition services to clients in a public health or community setting. The Competent Professional Authority assists with the delivery of WIC Services at the Howard County Health Department site to assure provision of high quality, cost-efficient, culturally sensitive services that comply with all Federal, State, and local agency policies and procedures. The incumbent will provide nutritional care counseling, conduct nutrition classes and prescribe standard and exempt/special food packages. This a part-time contractual position which requires working 16-24 hours monthly including evening and Saturday hours. The preferred candidate should be bilingual in Spanish/English.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Community Nutrition, Dietetics, Foods and Human Nutrition, Food Systems Management or Nutrition Education.
Experience: None.
NOTE:
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should be bilingual in Spanish/English.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
