Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources - Maryland Environmental Trust (Crownsville, MD) is currently accepting applications for a Long-Term Contractual Volunteer Activities Coordinator III - Volunteer Coordinator (VC), to recruit, train and manage up to 40 volunteer easement monitors, and occasional office volunteers. Duties include assigning property inspections, preparing property summaries, producing property location maps using ArcGIS software, and posting field inspection files to volunteers; supervising volunteer progress in completing monitoring assignments; collating and reviewing all materials and digital photographs returned by volunteers; flagging issues and potential violations and reviewing them with MET Stewardship Manager. Also, updating the MET database (in Microsoft Access) with inspection results and writing follow up correspondence to landowners; processing volunteer mileage expense reimbursements; training and supervising office volunteers in the scanning and storage of archival/baseline materials; writing articles for newsletter and electronic bulletins and social media; planning and executing annual volunteer recognition event. The selected candidate will also conduct some monitoring inspections, travelling to properties and meeting with landowners, taking digital pictures, and documenting observations using Microsoft Office and Adobe image and document management software.
Note: Volunteer training sessions and property visits may require walking over rough ground and climbing/descending fences and/or slopes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to include 30 credit hours in social sciences, journalism, or public relations or a related field.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program.
Notes:
1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Graduate level education in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience at a rate of 30 college credits for up to two years of the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland with a good driving record.
2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
