Main Purpose of Job

The epidemiologist analyzes data in order to determine changes in chronic disease trends and probable causes of epidemiologic problems, participates in implementation and evaluation of control or prevention measures, recommends investigations or special studies which are indicated from data analysis, and prepares reports describing the nature of problems identified from collected data. Analyses include chronic conditions related to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, COPD, obesity, nutrition, and physical activity. 

This position will provide epidemiological support to the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control statewide and local initiatives.  This position will analyze morbidity, mortality, and program evaluation data and provide epidemiological recommendations to Center staff.  This position will also support Center initiatives by preparing data/analysis for reports, presentations, and other documents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: None

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will be proficient in SAS.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
