Main Purpose of Job

The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT)Program is designed to provide the highly specialized clinical evaluation, treatment, habilitation, security and service planning to individuals with mental retardation who are committed to the DHMH by the courts for evaluation and/or care and treatment. The SETT has two locations, one in Jessup and the other in Sykesville. The Jessup SETT (10-12 beds) is an evaluation facility and the Sykesville SETT (20 beds) is a longer term facility for individuals in need of care and treatment. The goal of the SETT is to promote personal growth and productivity by enhancing each individual's skills and decreasing or eliminating maladaptive or socially unacceptable behaviors to facilitate movement to the most integrated, least restrictive setting approved by the court. The purpose of this position is to enforce the laws, rules and regulations that provide for the safety and protection of the staff, residents, and visitors to and including the Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment Program and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Ability to read and write.

Experience:  Two years of experience in building security work.

NOTE:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in master-at-arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have at least six (6) months experience working in a mental health facility.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.

2.  Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
