Main Purpose of Job

This Licensed Practical Nurse position is primarily responsible for all clerical duties on the Brain Injury Unit, such as monthly renewals, weekly chart audits, maintaining adequate inventory of supplies, and medical record organization. The Licensed Practical Nurse II (LPN II) works under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse III and in collaboration and coordination with Physicians, healthcare team members, and families to provide safe, effective, efficient, quality care to our patients/residents. The Licensed Practical Nurse II will utilize Nursing Professional Standards of Practice, Nursing Code of Ethics and WMHC Code of Conduct to ensure such care. In a team relationship, the Licensed Practical Nurse II is able to contribute to the nursing process by collecting patient/resident data, assisting with the development of care plans, implementing established interventions, and collecting data to assist in the evaluation of patient/resident outcomes. They are responsible to carry out Physician and Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP- CRNP and PA) orders and treatments. They are able to delegate duties to other health care personnel (Certified Nursing Assistants, Medication Technicians, and other unlicensed personnel) with appropriate follow-up of outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.

Experience: One year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must have clerical experience in a medical setting.The ideal candidate should have organizational skills, accuracy, and communicate effectively with staff and patients.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be require to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in, and therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
