Main Purpose of Job

The Nursing Program Consultant/Administrator IV will function as a Director of Nursing responsible for developing, planning and implementing an integrated program of nursing service for the Department of Juvenile Services facilities. This position supervises Nurse Managers and Nursing Supervisors and through them indirectly supervises subordinate nursing staff and licensed and non-licensed health care staff. The position ensures the quality of nursing care and treatment of youth in DJS facilities. The highly desirable candidate will have experience supervising nursing staff in performance of work in a correctional or juvenile detention setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including four years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

At least three years of the above experience must be providing nursing services in a correctional or juvenile detention setting.

Experience supervising nursing staff in performance of work in a correctional or juvenile detention setting.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. YOU MUST UPLOAD/ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR CURRENT LICENSE TO YOUR APPLICATION.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.   This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.
