Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to, under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, implement and provide direct services in the form of group or individual therapy to persons with severe and persistent mental illness. This position will function as a member of the treatment team and make recommendations to Occupational Therapists regarding re-evaluations of patient's level of functioning. This position provides supervision of Occupational Therapist fieldwork students (interns).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice under the licensing requirements for Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Experience: Two years of experience as a Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Note:  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Therapy Assistant classifications or Therapy Assistant specialty codes in the Occupation Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, Spring Grove Hospital Center, 55 Wade Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228.  Please attach a copy of current license to application for fullest consideration.

2. Employees in these classifications may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

3. Employees in these classifications may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
