Main Purpose of Job
The Volunteer Activities Coordinator Supervisor is the supervisory level of work directing a comprehensive volunteer services program for Eastern Correctional Institution.
Employees in this classification supervise lower level Volunteer Activities Coordinators and may supervise support staff, students and volunteers assigned to the Volunteer Activities program.
POSITION DUTIES
Supervises lower-level Volunteer Activities Coordinators.
Plans and implements a comprehensive volunteer activities program utilizing volunteer groups, organizations and individuals to meet the needs of the client population.
Interacts with civic associations and other groups concerning the volunteer activities of the facility, institution or the community program.
Prepares newsletters, news releases, and other special publications concerning the volunteer program.
Prepares volunteer program reports and the annual volunteer program budget.
Coordinates staff and volunteer activities with unit the director.
Works with the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism to promote volunteer activities.
Develops religious programs for patients or inmates.
Maintains meetings of Volunteer Advisory Counsel; Performs other related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to include 30 credit hours in social sciences, journalism, or public relations or a related field.
Experience: Four years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program.
Notes:
1. Additional experience as defined may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Graduate level education in social sciences, journalism, public relations or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience at a rate of 30 college credits for one year of the required experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Persons appointed to positions in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
