Frederick County Department of Social Services is located in Western Maryland, approximately 50 miles northwest of the Washington DC area, 50 miles west of the Baltimore area.

Main Purpose of Job

The position is the full performance level responsible for carrying out the financial operations of State and County Systems.  The position reviews, controls, records and balances financial transactions in accordance with prescribed procedures utilizing three major accounting systems: Financial Management Information System, Automated Financial System and CARES.  The position also performs preliminary reconciliations of bank accounts and calculations of payroll adjustments, extracts data from accounting systems, and summarizes financial information for reports utilizing personal computer spreadsheets in support of all of the programs of the Agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please describe in detail any job duties relating to the minimum qualifications stated below and include any computer software experience (Excel, CHESSIE, Powerpoint, Word etc.) used in the each of the positions you held.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

Notes:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
