LOCATION OF POSITION

Lanham, Maryland. 

This position is located adjacent to the New Carrollton metro stop in Prince George’s County.

POSITION DUTIES

DHCD has five immediate openings for a Grant Accountant, a Budget Accountant, a Loan Servicing Accountant and two GAAP Accountants positions. Successful candidates will have strong analytical skills and experience with Excel.

Grant Accountant (1 vacancy): This is an advanced accountant position that will perform financial functions related to Federal grants. This includes preparation of grant budgets, accounting for the collection and payments of grants, coordination with various programs and governmental agencies, reconciliation and reporting.

Budget Accountant (1 vacancy): This is an advanced accountant position that will assist in the preparation of the Department's budget requests, review and analyze financial transactions, and forecast spending. Assists with close-out by ensuring that items are properly accrued and adjusted at fiscal year end; Advises management on the status of accounts and recommends alternatives to improve the agency's financial position; Participates in the audit process of agency fiscal operations by providing auditors with explanations of accounting procedures, providing documentation of fiscal transactions and assisting in the formulation and implementation of corrective action plans precipitated by audit exceptions.

Loan Servicing Accountant (1 vacancy): This is an advanced accountant position that ensures new mortgage loans are accurately set-up for servicing in SASS (State Asset Servicing System); Encumbrance data and account coding is entered timely; payments due are calculated based on the Deed of Trust and that cash flow billings are verified and accurately reflected on the servicer delinquency report. This position performs and reviews loan accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and State and Departmental policies and procedures.

(GAAP) Accountants (2 vacancies): These advanced accountant positions are responsible for general ledger activity for Insurance and Loan Accounting. They perform such duties as reconciliations for general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements for assigned entities. These positions perform and review accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and State and Departmental policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please read carefully. Minimum qualifications are REQUIRED. Please provide UNOFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS to verify your education.  

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

 Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing for the required education.

2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required experience.

5.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year for year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to candidates with grant or governmental accounting experience.
  • Successful candidates will have strong analytical skill and experience with Excel.    
  • CPA's preferred but not required.
