Main Purpose of Job

The physician is charged with the duty of evaluating, diagnosing, admitting, treating patients and making discharge and after-care plans for the patients admitted to the hospital, with the participation of the patients, most commonly of young adult age to middle age, less commonly of geriatric age and only rarely adolescents on the deaf unit. All clinical activities and duties are to be carried out in accordance with hospital policies, rules and regulations in accordance with performance improvement goals, and within the fiscal constraints mandated to the hospital policies. The physician supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery oriented environment is respect and commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in the practice of medicine.

Notes: 1. A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

2. Internships and residencies are considered as qualifying medical experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
