Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide psychological services in a maximum-security forensic hospital, to include the treatment and assessment of patients through psychological tests and other related procedures.  The patients hospitalized at this facility could include persons charged with serious violent felonies (e.g., murder, arson, sexual offenses, etc.) and patients referred from prisons, detention centers, courts, and other mental health facilities not able to effectively treat patients due to the level of violence, behavioral disturbance, or risk of escape. The position will also provide forensic psychological evaluations of outpatient pretrial defendants charged with serious violent felonies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this position must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license.  When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.  Please be sure to upload and/or submit a copy of the required license with your application

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
