Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland School for the Deaf, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705

Main Purpose of Job

To provide health care for students in a residential setting, and to act as health care liaison between parents and school.

POSITION DUTIES

Administer medications (via oral, topical, inhalation, and injection) as prescribed for medical conditions or injuries.  Assessment, evaluation, and monitoring of students' current medical and emotional health status.  Identify nursing needs of students.  Maintain accurate and adequate records of nursing care and observations and treatment according to established procedures.  Maintain student health center facility.  Provide auxiliary duties as needed.  On-call nurse substitutes must be available on an on-call basis.  This is a contractual position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:  Pediatric, school or camp nurse experience desirable.  Experience with or willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in the classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
