Introduction

This is a MANAGEMENT SERVICES position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

This position is limited to permanent and contractual Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Allegany and Washington Counties

Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as the principal assistant to the Warden of a Correctional Institution, assisting in the overall management and daily operations of the facility.

POSITION DUTIES

An Assistant Warden performs managerial work involving the administration of an adult correctional institution housing convicted and sentenced felons.  Employees in this classification oversees the management of program and operations services such as, Social Work, Psychology, Religious Services, Case Management, Food Service and Maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor's degree including fifteen (15) credits in Criminal Justice. In order to meet this educational requirement an unofficial copy of your transcript must accompany your application.

Experience:  Five (5) years of experience in Criminal Justice or a related Field, three (3) of which must be in a position of major responsibility or supervisor capacity (i.e. Director, Program Manager, Facilities Administrator, Correctional Security Chief, Correctional Officer Major or Department Head).

Notes:  Additional experience in a position of major responsibility may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis up to four years.  An additional thirty (30) college credits may also be substituted for one year of experience, preferably in Criminal Justice or a related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will serve at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Employees in this classification are subject to be on call twenty-four hours a day.

Employees appointed to this position are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
