Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21043

Main Purpose of Job

To teach deaf and hard of hearing elementary and middle school students in the multi-disciplinary area of Visual Arts.

POSITION DUTIES

To implement MSDE curriculum in one or more of the fields: Art, Drama, and Music as a part of daily classroom instruction and school-wide programming and ensure that the classroom instruction and curriculum are aligned with Maryland College- and Career-Ready Standards; To prepare lesson plans, reports and keep records of student progress; To ascertain learning needs of students and establish evaluation techniques for assessment of progress such as pre- and post-assessment to measure student learning; To provide leadership and expertise in the area of visual arts instruction; To coordinate school-wide events relevant to visual arts; To prepare a showcase for a variety of events to show student work; To practice bilingual education and concepts with all students; To order materials relevant to visual arts instruction; To assume other duties as directed by the Principal and Assistant Principals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree from a college or university with a strong background in art, photography, theater, performing arts or equivalent experience in chosen field.

Maryland State Department of Education certification as a classroom instructor (or ability to obtain soon after hire).

Fluency in ASL and written English.  Knowledge of deaf community; Ability to teach or work with students of different educational backgrounds and additional disabilities.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Education (or related field).

Maryland State Teacher Certification.

Classroom teaching experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568.)
