Main Purpose of Job
This is a professional position responsible for providing academic instruction and assessments to individuals with disabilities with application to training and employment.
POSITION DUTIES
Plans, conducts, and assesses classroom instructional activities; assesses and records progress toward educational goals; maintains educational records; requisitions necessary materials; maintains classroom safety; tracks achievement of desired program outcomes; develops alternative instruction for individualized and independent study and provides individualized or small group academic assessments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s Degree and one year of professional teaching experience.
Candidates must be eligible for or willing to obtain certification in Elementary or Secondary Academic Education by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
NOTE: A Master’s Degree in Education may substitute for one year of professional teaching experience.
Preferences:

Currently Maryland State Department of Education certified.

Experience in using adaptive technology with individuals who have visual impairments.

Skilled in the use of American Sign Language for communication with individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education; knowledge of the subject area taught in basic academic skills and GED programs; knowledge of instructional planning and teaching methods; skills in the use of assessment instruments and adaptive technology; ability to develop appropriate educational goals and objectives; ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
