Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to inspect, assess, and evaluate the quality of laboratory services in medical laboratories, tissue banks, cholesterol test sites, and other related clinical laboratories for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act and State licensure. The incumbent will perform on site surveys of clinical laboratories, ensure state and federal laws are being enforced, generate reports of findings, and attend periodic trainings for CLIA by CMS. The incumbent will not surprivise but may train new surveyors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience working in a medical or public health laboratory performing diagnostic or public health testing on human specimens.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Science Research Officer classifications or Medical Laboratory Specialists specialty codes in the Science related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant will have a BS degree in Medical Technology, be ASCP certified and have at least 2 years of experience working as a technologist in a clinical laboratory.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
