Main Purpose of Job

This position provides health education regarding the cancer prevention programs. The Community Health Educator I will develop and implement long range outreach and educational programs and materials for the CRF-CPEST programs targeted cancers to meet the goals and objectives of the condition of awards; attend health fairs, community meetings, presentations, and visit physician offices; create and disseminate approved messages to the public via web posting, social media, press releases, flyers, brochures, etc. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and conduct coalition meetings; work with community volunteers in uniting a variety of agencies, individuals, and organizations who are interested in achieving the goals and objectives of Harford County Community Center Coalition; perform educational statistical data entry related to the cancer program; and order and maintain educational and promotional materials to increase knowledge about the programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: None.

Notes: 

1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and one year of experience in planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
