Main Purpose of Job

The Psychologist I will perform at an intermediate level by completing testing and evaluation of youth as part of Multidisciplinary assessment & Staffing Team.

POSITION DUTIES

The Psychologist I will be responsible for conducting mental health examinations of prospective job applicants for the Department of Juvenile Services.  This position will administer face-to-face interviews - and possible psychological testing - with candidates, and write a comprehensive report with recommendations to the Human Resources Department. 

Most interviews will occur in downtown Baltimore; however, will occasionally require travel to administer interviews at other settings (Western, Eastern or Southern Maryland regions) where DJS facilities and offices are located. The Psychologist I position will also be responsible for administering, scoring and interpreting psychological assessments of juvenile offender populations for treatment and placement recommendations. 

Evaluations would be completed at various DJS detention centers throughout the state.  The position would also attend relevant treatment staffings to report on testing results, diagnosis,treatment recommendations, and other appropriate referrals if needed, resulting from the evaluation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess at least one year of experience with conducting post-doctoral psychological assessments of juveniles and adults are highly desired

Candidates who possess experience with conducting personnel selection mental health evaluations of potential employees during the background investigation process are highly desired

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit to remove pending status.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

The Certified Eligible list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees. BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
