Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery

Main Purpose of Job

To conduct all tasks associated with the interment of veterans and their dependents and the maintenance of cemetery grounds, buildings and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the sixth grade.

Experience: One year of experience in the operation of complex or specialized construction or maintenance equipment which has a pedal operated clutch and a multi-speed manual transmission.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Equipment Operator classifications or Equipment Operator and Vehicle Operator specialty codes in the Equipment Operation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in grounds and building maintenance.

Previous experience in the operation of maintenance and construction equipment; such as tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, and large trucks.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in cemetery maintenance.

Ability to perform routine maintenance on operating vehicles.

Ability to deal effectively and courteously with superiors, co-workers, and the public.

Ability to learn the operation of new equipment.

Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants for Motor Equipment Operator I/II and III must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License depending on the type of equipment operated. All applicants must list their license number and date of issue on the application. Employees in the State Highway Administration, Department of Transportation may be required to obtain and maintain Departmental certification on several pieces of specialized seasonal equipment.

SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

The assessment may consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. It is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all experience and education that is related to this position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
