Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Integrated Policy and Review Unit, is currently accepting applications for a full- time Long Term Contractual Cartographer II. This position will provide mapping support for the development of conservation and natural resource management plans and for facilitating the environmental review of proposed projects on private and public lands. The incumbent will also be responsible for acquiring and maintaining mapping information. Experience using GIS and CAD software is desired.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree in geography with a specialization in cartography from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in cartography.

Notes:

1. Graduation from a accredited college or university with an associate degree in cartography or geography and three years of experience in cartography;

2. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and five years of experience in cartography.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering or Imagery classifications or Cartographer, Imagery, Geo-spatial, and Survey specialty codes in the Engineering and Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.  

For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.htm.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
