Main Purpose of Job

This position promotes the Board's mission to protect the public. This position manages a case load of egregious investigative cases. Under supervision by the Compliance Manager this position supervises the investigations of the Board. This position ensures that formal investigations into allegations of violations of the Dental Practice Act are conducted in a professional and timely manner. This position evaluates complaints to determine jurisdiction, priority, and actions necessary. It reviews and approves investigative plans submitted by investigative staff. As supervisor this position is responsible for conducting semi-annual, annual performance evaluations and corrective action plan reviews and completing performance evaluations plans (PEP)s for investigators. This position evaluates work products of investigators and discusses and documents corrective plan of action. This position will brief the Board on the status of investigations; provide regular updates to the Board during Board meetings; set investigative priorities in consultation with the Compliance Manager; and attend Administrative Session of Board meetings and the disciplinary Review Committee (DRC) meetings. This position is responsible for producing closure letters for investigative cases and for accurate data in L2K and Investigative Spreadsheet.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the field of criminal justice, criminology, law enforcement or an allied health field, (such as nursing, pharmacy, psychology, social work, nutrition, dietetics, speech pathology, audiology) from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years experience conducting criminal investigations, including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings.

Note:

1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Investigator, Police and Intelligence Specialist classifications or Investigator, Police and Intelligence specialty codes in the criminal investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have experience in health related investigations, supervising, and also have knowledge of dental terminology.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this class may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this class may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.
