Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is implementing health education/promotion activities, maintaining current knowledge on the issues of public health, health disparities, and the best practices, particularly among at-risk groups by reviewing research, participating in training and networking with other professionals in the field. The incumbent will utilize sound health education principles and the best practices to coordinate health education activities in the community that promote cancer and chronic disease prevention and the principles of an active lifestyle, healthy eating, and tobacco free living. The employee will evaluate public health activities and utilize findings to implement improvements, ensure successful project management by following program work plans, adhering to time lines and completing the grand and performance reports for the supervisor's review by due dates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience:  One year of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

NOTES: 

1.  Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the required education and experience.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
