LOCATION OF POSITION

The incumbent will work out of two locations:

4451-Z Parliament Place, Lanham, Maryland

and

5001 Silver Hill Road, Suite 306, Suitland, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

To provide secretarial, clerical, and telephone support for professional staff engaged in the planning and delivery of vocational and independent living services; provide expert assistance to consumers; initiate and maintain office protocols and procedures; and utilize information processing systems to maintain client statistical and financial records.  Staff members may be visually impaired and require this position to assist with reading, filing, and completing forms.

POSITION DUTIES

Respond to individual consumer concerns and telephone calls to include accurately recording the information provided by the client or caller, answering general questions about DORS; giving accurate information to the client or caller and maintaining proper interpersonal/telephone etiquette.  Prepare resumes and job related correspondence for clients.  Must travel between offices as needed in support of district activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the principles and practices of good office management; skill in a variety of software packages; good mathematical ability; skill in organizing and completing multiple tasks with close attention to detail; ability to independently respond to telephone and in-person  inquiries for routine information; ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in receiving callers, in giving and obtaining information, and in making proper disposition of problems; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license.  

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

An essential requirement of this position is to be able to drive visually impaired staff members to meetings, etc. using a State vehicle. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
