Main Purpose of Job

The WIC Services Associate will provide services to WIC clients such as income eligibility determination, health screening, health care and other referrals, and basic nutrition education. This position will interview clients to obtain socio-economic, health, and dietary information; screen health and nutritional status of clients and identify problems that place them at risk; determine WIC eligibility and complete certifications; provide WIC food benefits to clients; provide individual and group nutrition education; and evaluate and refer clients to other eligibility programs. The selected candidate should have knowledge of the Maryland WIC program and procedures, have experience in obtaining weight and height measurements, be bilingual in Spanish/English and have the ability to conduct client interviews to obtain accurate information in determining program eligibility. This is a full-time contractual position which will require working 1-2 evening clinics per month 11 am - 7:30 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  One year of experience in health or human service delivery, performing tasks such as program eligibility determination, health screening, client referral services, or nutrition education.

NOTE:

1.  Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred qualifications for this position are Spanish/English bilingual and the ability to conduct client interviews to obtain accurate information in determining program eligibility.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

The successful candidate must have knowledge of the Maryland WIC program policies and procedures and have experience in obtaining weight and height measurements.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
