THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (DNR) EMPLOYEES ONLY.
This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Boating Services- Stevensville, MD location. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Boating Services, in Stevensville, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Hydrographic Engineering Associate IV. The selected candidate ensures that surveys, regulatory buoys and marker placements are correct, this supports DNR in legal cases, and restoration efforts. The HEA IV position also surveys, locates and removes hazards to navigation and places navigation buoys critical to Public safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience as a Hydrographic Engineering Associate III, or three years of experience as a Hydrographic Engineering Associate II/III in Maryland State Service.

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State High School Equivalence Certificate including at least four courses in mathematics and/or science.
Experience: Nine years of experience involving any combination of hydrography, engineering, surveying, or construction inspection work including three years of experience in hydrographic engineering associated activities.
Note:
1. Applicants may substitute college courses in the field of engineering, geology, physics, oceanography, or mathematics (excluding basic required courses) from an accredited college or university at the rate of 15 credit hours for one year of the general experience, up to a maximum of two years.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Civil Engineering classifications or Civil Engineering or Quarrying Specialist specialty codes in the hydrographic engineering field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience must have involved positioning buoys and marine construction.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in the removal of abandoned vessels and debris is preferred.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
